How to Approach 2018 In a Healthier, Happier Way

Over the next few weeks, you're going to be bombarded with "2018 talk". Resolutions. New goals. New you.

Don't listen.

The current you is enough. Starting over every day, in small ways, is enough.

Instead of focusing on resolutions, create healthier daily habits.

Instead of making lengthy plans, focus on doing one small thing for your future every day.

Instead of feeling anxious about all you didn’t achieve, write a list of what you liked about 2017, however small.

Here’s the thing: a new calendar year is nothing more than a new calendar year. Chinese New Year is on January 28. Jewish New Year is on September 20. January 1 is a date. Nothing more.

And yet, our society profits from your self doubt, from the feeling in your stomach that you need to change yourself.

Don’t listen.

Be kinder to yourself. Love yourself. Become more yourself.

But don’t put pressure on yourself for the sake of a new year.

Ask yourself, today:

  1. What is something I’d like to try this year? (This can be a new food, hobby, sport. Think enjoyment above all.)
  2. What is a book I’d love to read this year?
  3. What is a trip I’d love to plan this year?
  4. What is a small way I can make myself healthier and happier this year?

And start, today.
