25 Work, Creativity and Life Lessons I've Learned at 25.

25 things I know for sure at the age of 25. About work, creativity, and living your best life.

  1. Don’t be afraid of getting older. Getting older is great. Each year, without even realising it, you love yourself a little more and care what people think a little less.
  2. Pay attention to what you pay attention to. That’s your calling right there.
  3. Happiness is a funny, transient thing. But the key to contentment is simple: Live your life from the inside out, rather than the outside in.
  4. Don’t worry if you haven’t got it all figured out. The truth is you, no matter how successful you become, you will NEVER have it all figured out and, really, how liberating is that?
  5. It’s never about the end destination, and all about the journey.
  6. You can be the smartest person in the room, but 90% of success is about likability, and 90% of likability is about how well you communicate.
  7. If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll never be ready. Progress begins at the end of your comfort zone. That’s when it gets meaningful. That’s when things get interesting.
  8. We’re all making it up as we go along. Every. Last. One. Of. Us.
  9. Some people will give you energy and others will take it. Know the difference.
  10. You learn something from every person you meet, good and bad. It’s up to you to see the lesson.
  11. If you’re not doing things that regularly scare you, at least a little, you’re doing your career wrong.
  12. Your brain is your life’s work, your best project. Read, write, watch and consume things that feed it.
  13. Every now and then, we all need to escape life for a little while. Call a friend. Have an hour-long bath. Watch trash TV with absolutely no shame. You’ll come back better for it. Sometimes doing nothing much at all is the best thing you can do for a busy mind.
  14. Nobody is watching you that closely. They’re too busy worrying that you’re watching them.
  15. Be enthusiastic! Be obsessive! Be in love with your life and the things in it. Life is too short not to be.
  16. Your story expands or reduces depending on your courage.
  17. Move your body. Monitor how you nourish your body. Eat well. Set aside proper time for sleep. But for the love of god, have a slice of cake when you want/need/crave a slice of cake.
  18. When things get overwhelming, breathe deeply for a few seconds. We spend most of our lives breathing so shallowly. Try breathing a little deeper now. Feels good, huh?
  19. Fear will always appear. The secret is to let fear know that it can come along for the journey, but you’re in the driving seat now.
  20. The days are long, but the decades are short.
  21. If you ever need to make a decision about anything, consult your future self, 20 years from now. Visualise your future self. Listen to your future self.
  22. Try not to worry too much. So much of what we worry about never happens. Focus on the things you can change, and let go of what you can’t.
  23. Some days you’ll knock it out the park, and others you will simply exist. That’s ok. It’s called being human.
  24. Love liberates, it doesn’t bind.
  25. You are braver than you think. You are more resilient than you think. You are more capable than you think.
